Pack Expo Connects Brings Virtual Flexible Packaging Showcase in November 2020

PMMI's online event November 9–13, 2020 replaced in-person Expo with digital demos and meetings.

Pack Expo Connects, held November 9–13, 2020, transformed North America's largest packaging trade event into a virtual experience after pandemic conditions prevented the traditional Las Vegas gathering. Flexible packaging equipment vendors and converters participated through digital showrooms, live chats, and on-demand equipment demonstrations.

For flexo press manufacturers, slitter builders, and laminator suppliers, Pack Expo Connects tested new marketing models. Without physical machine motion, vendors invested heavily in video production—showing register performance, auto-splice operations, and HMI walkthroughs that prospective buyers would normally inspect on show floors.

Converters attending virtually reported efficiency gains—no travel time—but missed tactile substrate trials and spontaneous hallway conversations that often advanced application engineering discussions. Brand owners scouting equipment for recyclable laminate projects scheduled follow-up virtual FAT discussions rather than immediate factory visits.

Session content emphasized automation, remote service, and hygiene-friendly packaging trends accelerated by COVID-19. Sustainability panels connected mono-material development with collection infrastructure—a reminder that equipment purchases supported broader system changes.

Pack Expo Connects 2020 established hybrid event expectations for the industry. When in-person Expos resumed, many flexible packaging stakeholders expected retained digital access for international buyers who could not travel—changing how machinery suppliers structured product launches and demo availability year-round.
